Opposing attorneys George Barrett (for Tim Barnes) and Bob Rochelle (for Rosalind Kurita) argue the case before the Democratic Executive Committee.
Sen. Rosalind Kurita won her Democratic primary in District 22 in August and her election was certified. Her opponent, Tim Barnes, challenged the election before the Democratic Executive Committee meeting, claiming there was improper interference in the Democratic primary which elected Kurita by 19 votes .
The Tennessee Democratic Executive Committee set aside Sen. Rosalind Kurita's primary victory voting 33-11-2 to declare her 19-vote victory "incurably uncertain. " Clarksville attorney Tim Barnes, who opposed her in the primary, set forth before the Executive Committee several incidences of Republican interference in the Democratic nominating contest.
The decision on which contender wins the nomination will go to a joint convention of the Democratic executive committees in Cheatham, Houston and Montgomery counties. There is no Republican running in the general election. The Democratic winner will be the senator.
